In his second start as a Met, the longball bit Aaron Harang again, as Gregor Blanco took him deep in the top of the third for a two-run homer. The Giants tacked on an unearned run in the fourth when they capitalized on a pair of head-scratching errors, and added another on Brandon Crawford RBI single in the fifth.
The Mets roughed up Matt Cain the last time they saw him, but tonight the Giants righty cruised against their quote-unquote offense, scattering 6 mostly harmless singles through 7 2/3 innings. The Mets scratched out a run against him on a sac fly in the bottom of the eighth, but that would be the sum total of their offense against the starter.
But with Cain out of the game, the Mets suddenly came alive. In the ninth, two walks against Santiago Casilla forced the Giants to use overworked closer Sergio Romo. He surrendered an RBI double to pinch hitter Zach Lutz, followed by an RBI single to Juan Centeno. The Mets still trailed by a run with two out, but Josh Satin delivered with a two-run single to deliver a walkoff 5-4 victory.
Full recap to come.
