Final Score: Nationals 7, Mets 2 — Aaron Harang debuts, pitches well, loses

In his first big league start with the Mets after signing a minor league deal a couple of weeks ago, former ace Aaron Harang pitched, well, impressively! The Mets lost, of course, because the Mets as presently constituted are a pretty bad major league baseball team.

Harang, who was a splendid pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds in the mid-2000s, struck out ten Nationals and walked just one over six innings. His fatal mistake was allowing three runs while pitching for a team that, perforce, can't score more than two runs in a game. The three runs he allowed came on solo home runs by Ryan Zimmerman, Adam LaRoche, and Wilson Ramos, and combined with another homer David Aardsma would allow later, helped the Nats amass thirteen total long balls in the four-game series.

The Mets' two runs came on a Daniel Murphy double that plated Eric Young in the first and an Anthony Recker single that scored Lucas Duda in the fourth. Both runs tied the game, at 1-1 and 2-2, respectively.
