Final Score: Nationals 3, Mets 0 — Wheeler deals but bats snooze

Zack Wheeler and Dan Haren faced off in a pitchers' duel in the first five frames. Actually, Wheeler did the bulk of the dueling, scattering 8 hits while logging 6 strikeouts and limiting the Nats to 0-for-8 with men in scoring position. Haren, on the other hand, took full advantage of a Mets lineup that seemed only too anxious to return into its comfy, cozy dugout.

The Nationals broke the scoreless tie when Ryan Zimmerman homered to start the top of the sixth. Wheeler permitted no more through seven solid innings of work, but the Nats scored two against Vic Black in the eighth on an Anthony Rendon double to extend their lead. This was patently unnecessary, as the Mets put up no resistance to any Washington pitcher who took the hill tonight. Haren and the Nats' bullpen combined to limit the Mets to 3 hits and one walk, shutting them down for the second time in three games.

Full recap to come.
