After a subpar outing by Zack Wheeler in the opening game of the series, Jonathon Niese fared even worse on Saturday night, giving up six runs in six innings as the Mets fell to the Indians 9-4. The majority of the damage came in a five-run first. Nick Swisher got the Indians on the board with an RBI double. Two batters latter, Carlos Santana followed with an RBI single, With the bases loaded and one out, Ryan Raburn cleared the bases with a double to make it 5-0. The Indians would add another run in the second on a Swisher homer, his second in two nights.
The Mets offense would not go down quietly. After getting a run in the second on a Matt den Dekker RBI single, the Mets would score three runs in the sixth to cut it to 6-4, two of which came home on a Justin Turner double.
However, Scott Atchison would end any hope of a comeback as the ageless veteran gave up a three run homer to Asdrubal Cabrera in the bottom of the seventh. The Mets would not threaten the rest of the way.
