Triple-A: New Orleans Zephyrs
L 1-5 vs. Albuquerque Isotopes
Gil Velazquez, SS: 1-for-3, 2 BB, SO
Kevin Kouzmanoff, 1B: 2-for-5
Rett Varner, SP: 4.0 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 3 BB, 3 SO
The Zephyrs faced the former major league starter Jonathan Sanchez, who in typical fashion walked six batters. Strangely, the offense was unable to convert these base runners into runs scored. Sanchez ultimately allowed no runs to score.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns
W 3-0 vs. Mississippi Braves
Brent Keys, RF: 0-for-4
Mark Canha, 1B: 2-for-4, 2B, SO
Bryan Evans, SP: 7.2 IP, 6 H, 7 SO
The Suns and Braves were locked in a close duel for much of the game, with the Suns taking a narrow lead in the fourth inning. The game broke towards Jacksonville when Mississippi third basemen Edward Salcedo made a fielding error with the bases loaded, allowing two runners to score.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads
L 0-16 @ St. Lucie Mets
Yordy Cabrera, 3B: 0-for-4
Jake Esch, SP: 4.1 IP, 11 H, 9 R, 9 ER, BB
Colby Suggs, RP: 1.0 I, SO
St. Lucie scored an incredible ten runs in one inning, walking twice, hitting seven singles and two doubles in the bottom of the fifth. Jupiter was utterly listless, collecting only four hits and allowing two errors.
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
L 1-3 @ Lakewood BlueClaws
Viosergy Rosa, 1B: 1-for-2, 2B, BB
Matt Milroy, SP: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 7 SO
Colin Moran was ejected in the first inning of the baseball game after being called out on strikes. I can't speak to the circumstances behind the ejection, but it would point to a lack of maturity on Moran's part.
Short-Season: Batavia Muckdogs
L 0-6 vs. Mahoning Valley Scrappers
Rehiner Cordova, 2B: 0-for-2, 2 BB, SO
Aaron Blanton, SS: 0-for-3, 2 SO
Max Garner, SP: 3.0 IP, 6 H, R, ER, BB, 2 SO
Mahoning Vallery outclassed Batavia in every facet of the game, netting 16 hits, while Luis Gomez and their bullpen threw a combined no-hitter. The Muckdogs also gave up three errors.
