The Mets trounced the Nationals on Saturday night as Zack Wheeler had a far better outing than the veteran Dan Haren. Wheeler threw six-and-two-thirds innings, allowed two runs, struck out three, and walked one. He's been an excellent pitcher over the past several weeks, noticeably better than he was in his first handful of starts.
As for the offense, the Mets scored early and often. Omar Quintanilla plated a pair of runs with a double in the second inning, and the Mets tacked on six more in the third. They added three insurance runs in the eighth inning to put the game completely out of reach for Washington.
