Zack Wheeler goes to the mound this evening in DC as the Mets face off against Dan Haren and the Nationals.

Sandy Alderson says that September call-ups will be made after the minor league playoffs end. Las Vegas can clinch their division with a win tonight. Ruben Tejada will be one of those call-ups and he's expected to get a long look at shortstop. It also sounds like Jeurys Familia will get some big league time as well, as he's working his way back. Frank Francisco, meanwhile, is pitching in Binghamton but is unlikely to get a promotion and likely will be released. And it looks like Bobby Parnell's season is over.

Lefty pitcher Steven Matz has overcome his Tommy John surgery from hell a few years back to turn himself into a prospect on the rise for the Mets. Meanwhile, it was Savannah righty Gabriel Ynoa who won the Outstanding Pitcher of the Year award in the SAL. Both pitchers are expected to shoot up Mets' prospect lists this winter.

The Mets may have a trio of lower case "D" names on the roster next season. Interestingly enough, den Dekker roughly translates to "The Roofer". Does anybody think that has nickname potential?

John Sickels has a prospect retrospective on Mets' reliever LaTroy Hawkins. I didn't realize just how big a prospect he was back in the 1890's.

Around the NL East

Freddie Freeman's two-run home run off of Jose Fernandez was enough to defeat the Marlins 2-1 on Friday.

The Philliesbeat the Cubs 6-5 yesterday. They also announced the signing of Cuban righty Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez to a much cheaper deal than was originally rumored. Chase Utley hit a triple into the Wrigley Field ivy last night and a second baseball came out. Andre Dawson may've also fallen out of the ivy at that point.

Nationals' bench coach Randy Knorr questioned Bryce Harper's hustle after yesterday's loss.

Around the Majors

Top pitching prospect Taijuan Walkerimpressed in his big league debut with the Mariners.

Rays' reliever Fernando Rodney got locked inside the dugout bathroom at O.Co Coliseum in Oakland.

What would players like to lead the league in? Fangraphs finds out the answers. Love Joey Votto and Jason Giambi. Also, Nick Swisher's answer is exactly what I thought it would've been.

Brett Lawrie is pretty impressive at third base.

If you like speed, Reds' speedster Billy Hamilton will be promoted on Monday. That should be fun to watch.
