The Mets' one-through-four hitters combined to go 10-for-19 with four extra-base hits as the Mets pounded the Phillies to split the four-game series. Daniel Murphy went 4-for-5, Eric Young Jr. went 3-for-5, and Andrew Brown and Anthony Recker each homered to pace the offense. The Mets held leads of 6-0 and 10-1; this game was an enjoyable laugher.
Carlos Torres allowed just one run in 6.2 innings of work, striking out six and walking none. It was his first start in about a month, and it was his best start of the season. He boasts an ERA of 2.77 in 55.1 innings pitched this season. Pretty good!
Lucas Duda returned to the starting lineup and went 1-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts. Matt den Dekker made his major-league debut and got off to an inauspicious start at the plate: 0-for-5 with two strikeouts.
This is the last game the Mets will play against the Phillies at Citi Field this season. The final series between the heroes and the villains will be at Citizens Bank Park in three weeks.
