Since coming back from the disabled list, Jon Niese has been excellent, and tonight was no exception. The left-handed starter threw a complete-game three-hit shutout against the Phillies as the Mets won. Niese struck out five and walked one in the start.
As for the bats, Daniel Murphy singled in Niese—who ran through Tim Teufel's stop sign—for the first run of the game in the third inning. Travis d'Arnaud plated the second run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and later in that inning Niese hit a double with the bases loaded to score the team's third, fourth, and fifth runs.
