The Mets lost to the Phillies in the first game of a four-game series on Monday night at Citi Field. Although Zack Wheeler had a very good outing—6.2 innings, 2 runs, 7 strikeouts, and 1 walk—the Mets were only able to score once.
The Mets' lone run came in the second inning after Marlon Byrd "doubled" on a fly ball that two Phillies outfielders completely misplayed. Andrew Brown drove him in with a single.
But Wheeler allowed a hit and a walk in the fourth inning before surrendering a triple to someone named Cody Asche. That plated both of the Phillies' runs on the evening and proved to be the difference in the game.
