Meet the Mets

Just when you thought it was safe to play the Braves again, the Mets (with a rather large assist from Jerry Layne) managed to remind you that, no, it is never safe to play the Braves. At least the Mets got their money's worth in the ensuing chaos, with both second baseman Daniel Murphy and manager Terry Collins getting the ol' heave-ho.

Jason Fry admirably deals with the absurdity of yesterday game over at Faith and Fear in Flushing.

But hey, at least the Yankees beat reporters could enjoy yesterday's game at Citi Field, since it meant no A-Rod talk.

In actual good news, last night the Binghamton Mets, the big club's Double-A affiliate, clinched their first division title since 2000.

Before the Tigers come to town, Mark Simon has all the 'Met'rics from the Mets two-game tilt with the Braves.

And finally, a hearty kudos to this dude. I assume you are a reader, so feel free to out yourself in the comments below.

Yesterday at AA

Chris McShane broke down Matt Harvey's 26th start of 2013.

And a couple of yahoos got together and recorded another episode of Amazin' Avenue Audio.

Around the NL East

Jason Heywardwill be out 4-6 weeks after Jon Niese hit him in the jaw with a pitch yesterday.

The Braves added Elliot Johnson after he was waived by Kansas City.

Michael Youngdid something good, so Ruben Amaro should resign him. Veteran presents!

Scott Hairston verus a left-handed pitcher ended well for the Nationals. Shocker.

And sloppy defense doomed the Marlins in their game with the Dodgers.

Around MLB

Here is all of yesterday's action in one handy dandy scoreboard. Of particular note: R.A. Dickeymakes me sad now.

Cuban defector Jose Dariel Abreu took his next step towards being eligible to sign with a major league team.

Jeff Sullivan looks at the most unhittable pitches of 2013.

Rob Neyer examines the concussion problem among major league catchers.

And Howard Megdal tries to figure out how the Rays are doing it. Again.
