The Mets beat the Twins in Minnesota this afternoon by a score of 6-1. Dillon Gee went seven-and-two-thirds innings, struck out nine, walked just one, and allowed only one unearned run.
The Mets' lineup did its part, too, scoring one run in the first and another in the second. They tacked on two more in the fourth inning, all of which were charged to struggling Twins starter Kyle Gibson. A Wilmer Flores single in the seventh plated the Mets' fifth run, and Marlon Byrd hit is twentieth home run of the year, a solo blast, in the ninth inning for the team's sixth and final run of the afternoon.
Scott Rice and Scott Atchison combined for one-and-one-third scoreless innings in relief of Gee to finish the game.
