The Mets designated Olson for assignment Saturday to make room on their roster for left-hander Johan Santana, who was activated from the disabled list.
Olson appeared in only one game for the Mets since he was recalled in early August. The 28-year-old was hit hard during his one-third inning of work, allowing four runs on three hits and a walk, good for an ERA of 108.00.
Olson has spent most of the season pitching for the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate. Over twenty-five appearances, including twenty-one starts, the southpaw has maintained an ERA of 4.56 with 7.8 SO/9 and 4.2 BB/9.
Olson has only appeared in five games at the major league level over the past two seasons and owns a career ERA of 6.26.
