Mets-5, Rockies-0: Rockies running out of relevance rapidly.

Jhoulys Chacin pitched very well, giving up two runs in seven innings of work. Unfortunately for him, his teammates couldn't muster any runs against Matt Harvey and they were not patient enough to get him out of the game by pitch count. Add to that Manny Corpas giving up three runs in the eighth and it mattered little that Troy Tulowitzki came to the plate with a runner on base in the ninth.

With no pressure thanks to the extra five runs, Harvey stayed in the game after getting hit by the baseball on a Charlie Blackmon single and got a frustrated Tulo to pop up on a 3-2 pitch to end the game. This team needs Cargo back in a bad way and needs to temporarily find a new lead off hitter. I will likely go into more detail in the Thursday Rockpile, but Dexter Fowler has no business leading off based on the fact that since his return from injury, his batting average is .171 and his OBP is .300. Further, since his marvelous April, he is batting just .204 against right handers with a .345 OBP. Not sure who out of this group would replace him but even I might give Scrappy (Jonathan Herrera) a shot.

The Mets again out-hustled the Rockies when batting and Harvey pitched really well. It didn't help the Rockies that they only made him throw more than eleven pitches in four of his nine innings. The Rockies best batter as far as pitch count was Chacin who averaged 5.5 pitches per at bat. The only other player over four pitches per at bat was Tulo at 4.75.

Maybe we should have seen this road trip coming with the way the team started the homestand after the All-Star break, but I did not think this offense would be this bad. So far in August, the Rockies are averaging less than two runs per game. Hopefully me saying this will cause them to break out and score ten on the last game of this road trip that has been an extremely ugly 1-8 so far. If the Giants win tonight, the Rockies will be tied for last in the division and twelve games out of first place.
