Zack Wheeler struggled with control, and Miami scored a bunch.
The Mets lost a stinker to the Marlins today, as Zack Wheeler made his first spring start. While his stuff looked good when it was hitting the strike zone, it often did not. He threw one-and-two-thirds innings in the outing and needed quite a few pitches to do it. He struck out three, walked two, and hit two batters with pitches. But it's not the end of the world.
As for the other notable events of the game:
- Jordany Valdespin, playing for the visitors, went 2-for-4, drove in three, and scored two runs.
- The Mets had just seven hits, but Matt den Dekker had two of them.
- Chasen Bradford, Josh Edgin, Jenrry Mejia, and Sean Gilmartin all gave up at least one run in relief, while Jeurys Familia, Scott Rice, Vic Black, and Carlos Torres threw a scoreless frame apiece.
