Utility man Eric Campbell is using spring training this year to add another position to his arsenal.
According to Adam Rubin, Eric Campbell is expanding his horizons in 2015 by adding catcher to the list of positions he can play. Campbell, to the surprise of some, has been seen working with other Mets' catchers so far during spring, as he will be the team's emergency catcher for the 2015 season.
Campbell made a name for himself with Mets fans playing six different positions—first base, second base, third base, shortstop, left field, and right field—last year, picking up some big hits along the way. His ability to come off the bench and hit also made him a fan-favorite.
In 2014 with the Mets, Campbell hit .262 with a .322 on-base percentage in 190 at-bats. While with Triple-A Las Vegas, Campbell even pitched an inning of relief. Campbell has yet to play behind the dish in a professional game.
For 2015, Campbell is likely to take on that same role as a pinch hitter and utility player. His ability to hit and play a number of positions gives Terry Collins a very useful option late in games.
