The 2014 first-rounder seemed to validate the organization's selection with a very strong debut in Brooklyn.

Rob says:

"I can't help but think that in a lot of ways the value proposition that the 21-year-old Conforto represents mirrors the one that Mets fans are expecting/hoping for Brandon Nimmo. Specifically, the 2014 first-rounder combines an extremely patient approach with a smooth stroke from the left side, which projects more towards power than average at the highest levels -- reflecting the organizational strategy of the front office. Both players will man the corner outfield.

There are some differences around the edges—Nimmo boasts better foot speed, could maybe survive in center—but the shape of the primary value is similar. The two are virtually the same age and assuming a very quick ascent on the part of Conforto—if he isn't in Binghamton by July something has gone wrong—could represent an attractive homegrown corner outfield duo to eventually phase out the current thirty-something options."
