The pitcher was suspended following a positive test.
Mets minor league pitcher Tim Peterson has been suspended 80 games by Major League Baseball after testing positive for Trenbolone, a performance-enhancing drug, according to ESPN New York's Adam Rubin.
Taken in the 20th round of the 2012 draft out of the University of Kentucky, Peterson has pitched almost exclusively in relief in the Mets' system. Over the course of three seasons, he has pitched for Brooklyn, Savannah, St. Lucie, and, for one game, Binghamton. In total, he has a 4.22 ERA in 121.2 career innings with 10.6 strikeouts and 2.4 walks per nine innings.
He won't be seen on any top prospects lists for the Mets, but this suspension is one of a growing list of Mets farmhands being suspended for drug usage, in this case performance-enhancing substances. Peterson joins the likes of L.J. Mazzilli, Chase Huchingson,Brandon Welch, and Cesar Puello to be suspended for drug-related offenses while members of the New York Mets organization.
