The Mets' revamped farm system is getting more and more recognition, this time from the BP staff.
Baseball Prospectus staff has just released its top 101 prospects list for the 2015 season, along with scouting reports on each of player on the list(subscription required). Six Mets made the list, headlined by Noah Syndergaard at ninth, two spots up from his ranking in the previous year. Syndergaard is also the Mets' top prospect according to BP's Top 10 Mets prospects list released last November.
At number 33 is left-handed pitcher Steven Matz. He's the highest-ranked pitching prospect on the 2015 list that didn't make the cut last year. After two injury-derailed seasons, the 23-year-old southpaw fought his way back to top prospect status by posting a 2.27 ERA and a 3.74 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 140.1 innings combined in High-A and Double-A last season.
The Mets' top position prospect, outfielder Brandon Nimmo, checks in at 69, followed by shortstop Amed Rosario (78), catcher Kevin Plawecki (80), and second baseman Dilson Herrera (82). With six prospects making the list in total, the Mets are tied with the Rockies for third-most, behind the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago Cubs, with eight and seven, respectively.
