Now 33, Quintanilla hopes to make an impact in the city where it all started come April.

The Colorado Rockies have signed veteran infielder Omar Quintanilla, who spent his first five major league seasons with the franchise. The minor league deal will likely give the journeyman an opportunity to compete for a spot on the Rockies’ final 40-man roster come April.

After five years in Colorado Quintanilla bounced around the league, making stops with the Rangers, Orioles, and Mets. Quintanilla spent 2011 with the Texas Rangers before splitting the 2012 season between New York and Baltimore. Quintanilla returned to the Big Apple before the 2013 season, signing a minor league contract with the Mets.

With a lack of depth at shortstop, Quintanilla appeared in 95 games for the Mets in 2013, recording career highs with 315 at-bats, 70 hits, and 21 RBI.Quintanilla called New York home once again in 2014, but was used sparingly with the emergence of Wilmer Flores and Dilson Herrera in the middle of the infield.
