As expected, the sides have agreed to a one-year deal.
Jon Heyman has reported that the Mets avoided arbitration with closer Jenrry Mejia. He put the total for the deal at $2.595 million, above the midpoint of the figures put forth by the two sides.
Mejia is coming off a 2014 season that he split between the starting rotation and bullpen. He won the fifth starter spot out of spring training and remained in that role for a little over a month until he was moved to the bullpen in the middle of May. He immediately filled the role closer and went on to form a formidable back-end along with Jeurys Familia and Vic Black.
Mejia pitched at the end of the season through back problems and ultimately ended his season with a 3.65 ERA and a 3.73 FIP over 93.2 innings. Mejia, Familia, and Black, along with Josh Edgin and eventually Bobby Parnell figure to make up a bullpen that could be a strength for the Mets this year.
