The Mets' group of 17 NRIs is loaded with talent both old and new.

The Mets have extended invitations to 17 non-roster players to join their 2015 spring training campaign. Highlighted by Buddy Carlyle and Scott Rice, who both spent time in the Mets’ bullpen last season, the group includes eight pitchers, seven infielders, and two outfielders. Alongside the prospective major leaguers is coveted Mets prospect Brandon Nimmo, who was selected 13th overall in the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft.

Pitchers and catchers—accounting for 11 of the 17 invitees—must report by Thursday, February 19, while position players don't have to report until Tuesday, February 24. The full list of invitees  can be found below.

Notable invitees

Buddy Carlyle spent the majority of last season playing for Triple-A Las Vegas, appearing in 30 games and posting a 4-2 record with a 2.16 ERA and 36 strikeouts. The right-hander also appeared in 27 games for the Mets, recording 28 strikeouts in 31 innings and allowing just five earned runs. At 37 years old, Carlyle can add a veteran presence to a Mets’ bullpen that is sure to be loaded with young talent. Carlyle made his major league debut in 1999 for the San Diego Padres.

After appearing in 73 games for the Mets in 2013, Scott Rice was used sparingly in 2014 and struggled when called upon. In 32 games last season, Rice allowed 15 hits, nine home runs, and walked 12 batters in 13.2 innings. The only left-handed NRI pitcher in the group, Rice, who was signed to a minor league deal last month, has a legitimate shot at making a run with the big club.

Brandon Nimmo, who ranks behind only starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard as the most talked-about Mets prospect, has earned his second consecutive non-roster invitation to Port St. Lucie. Last season, Nimmo progressed from High-A St. Lucie to Double-A Binghamton. In 65 games for Binghamton, Nimmo hit .238 with 57 hits and six home runs.
