Meet the Mets

Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Mets turned down a three-team trade with the Nationals and Rays that would have landed Ian Desmond in New York. Tampa Bay was looking for Noah Syndergaard and another highly-rated prospect, but the Mets apparently thought the price was too high for Desmond, who will be a free agent next winter.

Hey, wasn't Dillon Gee supposed to be gone by now? Andy Martino says the right-hander was part of a trade discussion recently and that the Mets are still trying to move him.

The Queens Baseball Convention held at McFadden's over the weekend featured a Terry Collins doppleganger.

This date in Mets history: Rickey Henderson was elected into the Hall of Fame in 2009. 10 years earlier he put together one of the best ever seasons for a 40-year-old while helping the Mets advance to the NLCS.

Around the National League East

It turns out Dan Haren may show up for the Marlins after all. The west coast is not always the best coast.

Ichiro Suzuki and Nate Schierholtz are among the possibilities for Miami's fourth outfielder role.

Despite the high price tag and diminishing skills, trading Ryan Howard shouldn't be too difficult for the Phillies.

Roy Halladay ran into one of his fans at an amusement park and took a sneaky picture.

Around the Majors

The Yankees are hiring two hitting coaches to replace Kevin Long. Wow, the Mets' new hitting coach must really be awesome.

With more wins than losses on his managing resume, Willie Randolph figures he's due for another big league job.

Adam Jones will send a big check to charity after losing a friendly football bet to David Ortiz.
