Meet the Mets

Thanksgiving (or the day after Thanksgiving) is always a great reminder that sometimes we take sports too seriously. We all know that not everyone appreciates when Sandy Alderson makes jokes about the Mets, but at least some people appreciate the general manager's sense of humor.

Also known to enjoy a good joke was the late Ray Sadecki, who pitched for the Mets from 1970 through 1974 and again in 1977.

Rising Apple discusses what the Mets should do with their pitching surplus. The site would also like to wish us a belated Metsian Thanksgiving.

Around the Majors

Pedro Strop was involved in a serious car accident in the Dominican Republic. Initial reports regarding Strop's condition are encouraging, as he appears to have escaped without major injury.

Before leaving for the literally greener pastures of Oakland, Billy Butler left a classy message in the Kansas City Star to show how thankful he is for his time with the Royals.

Oakland's acquisition of Butler could make lefty slugger Brandon Moss more available for a team like the Marlins to bring in.

Allen Craig of the Red Sox is another player whom Miami could probably acquire on  the cheap and plug in at first base.

Yesterday at Amazin' Avenue

Steve Schreiber reminded us that we have plenty to be thankful for as Mets fans, even if the team hasn't made the playoffs in nearly a decade.

On this date in 1961, the Mets acquired Frank Thomas from the Braves. In 1922, the team's second ever manager, Wes Westrum, was born.
