The Mets traded Davis to Pittsburgh early in the 2014 season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated 27-year-old Ike Davis for assignment. Davis was, of course, traded to the Pirates by the Mets early in the 2014 season for minor league pitchers Blake Taylor and Zack Thornton.

Coming into the season, there was plenty of debate about whether the Mets should use Davis or Lucas Duda as their primary first baseman. Duda went on to have the best season of his career, as he hit .253/.349/.481 with 30 home runs and a very good 136 wRC+ in 596 plate appearances. Davis managed a 108 wRC+ with a .233/.344/.378 line and 11 home runs in 427 plate appearances.

So the early returns on the Duda-Davis decision are good, and the Mets have a couple more minor league pitchers than they did before the season began. Davis could still find a spot on a major league roster this winter, but it appears the Mets made the right call in choosing Duda over Davis.
