Your Tuesday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links.
Meet the Mets
No news is often good news, I suppose. Yesterday was another quiet day in Flushing, but we still got hear about Tom Seaver's birthday and some big doings in the N.L. East:
Brad Kallet says that the Mets shouldn't look to move Daniel Murphy.
Jim Callis says that Noah Syndergaard will be the N.L. Rookie of the Year in 2015. I think we'd all sign up for that.
Mike Vorkunov asks "what's the Mets roster going to look like?"
Howie Rose made an appearance on Chris "Mad Dog" Russo's show to talk about the Mets' offseason and some Mets history.
Brian Costa writes that Sandy Alderson was offered a loftier job title, but declined.
Greg Prince reminisces on Tom Seaver at 70 years young.
In honor of Tom Seaver's birthday yesterday, NJ.com compiled some highlights.
We haven't been able to confirm this, but there's a report out there that Mr. Met is dead, and he was a lot older than you'd think.
Around the NL East
Giancarlo Stanton has officially signed the largest deal in baseball history. The deal is for thirteen years and $325 million, with an opt-out clause after six years and full no-trade protection.
The Bravesmade a huge move by sending Jason Heyward and Jordan Walden to the Cardinals, for Shelby Miller and prospect Tyrell Jenkins.
Andy Martino writes that the Stanton deal is one that we'll be talking about for a long time, and that it may be the base for the Marlins to build on.
Jason Heyward said some less than flattering things about the Braves organization on his way out the door.
Dave Cameron writes that the Braves/Cardinals trade is a fascinating one.
Ben Lindbergh at Grantland takes a look at the nitty-gritty of why the Stanton deal went down.
Around the Majors
The Blue Jayshave agreed to a 5-year, $82 million deal for Russell Martin, who was one of the top free agents on the market.
The Cubs, fresh off losing the Russell Martin competition, are going afterJon Lester.
Mike Petriello wants to know if Elvis Andrus is still valuable. If he is not, then this will make a very awkward situation for Jeff Paternostro when he has to rewrite the Shortstop Avenue Audio jingle, yet again.
If you really want a unique souvenir, you can buy Jose Canseco's "smelly" finger that recently fell off during a poker tournament!
The Yankees - after downplaying their interest - seem to be in the market for a high-end starting pitcher.
Christopher O'Donnell writes that Rays stadium talks are moving along, albeit at a snail's pace.
The Dodgers made a seemingly minor move, acquiring Kyle Jensen from the Marlins.

We continued our series of season reviews, as Nathan Gismot reviewed Gonzalez Germen, and I took a look at Matt den Dekker.
We looked at some free agents the Mets could be taking a look at as Scot Cohen profiled Hanley Ramirez, Colby Connetta profiled Andrew Miller, and Andrew Gould profiled Alex Rios.
Steve Schreiber opined that despite Jeurys Familia being the Mets best reliever, he shouldn't close games.
James Kannengieser asks you to vote for the Mets most important hit of 2014.
