Mets GM Sandy Alderson hinted that top prospect Brandon Nimmo may start 2015 in Triple-A after a breakout season in 2014.

In an interview with Mike Vorkunov of NJ.com, Sandy Alderson said that Mets top prospect Brandon Nimmo is expected to see time in Triple-A Las Vegas in 2015. The 21-year-old outfielder hit .278/.394/.426 with a career high 10 home runs in 127 games between Single-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton last season. Nimmo, a Wyoming native, was drafted out of high school with the 13th overall pick by the Mets in the 2011 draft.

"To me he's right on track to probably go to Las Vegas this year," Alderson said. "If what happens going forward is similar to what happened in Binghamton, where more of the power is evident, I think he's right on track."

It is unclear whether Alderson means that Nimmo will start 2015 in Triple-A or eventually make the jump after starting out back in Double-A, but the organization certainly thinks very highly of Nimmo after his improvements at the plate in 2014. Alderson also told Vorkunov that he does not see a need to rush Nimmo's path to the big leagues after the team bolstered their starting outfield with the Michael Cuddyer signing.

Baseball Prospectus recently ranked Nimmo as the Mets' best position-player prospect and number-three-overall prospect behind pitchers Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz. Nimmo and Michael Conforto, the Mets' top draft pick out of Oregon State this past June, provide the Mets with two top outfield prospects that should make their debuts in Queens within the next couple years.
