Meet the Mets

The Mets never seem to play well in the 'Los Mets' jerseys, and this year's creamsicle versions didn't break that string. Jeremy Hefnerwas roughed up again, and the Mets couldn't do much against Tim Hudson, so it will be up to Zack Wheeler to salvage a split this afternoon.

Hudson left the game with a fractured ankle after getting stepped on by Eric Young, Jr. on a play at first. Young seemed absolutely broken up about it, and it's just a horrible situation all around. Always dreaded facing Hudson, and the guy has had a hell of a career. Hopefully this isn't the end.

Last night makes two bad starts in a row for Jeremy Hefner, and bad is being charitable. I still think he's a fine fifth starter, but that home run rate is always going to be a problem.

David Wrightnearly fell victim to a freak injury of his own, as he took a broken bat to the back of the head. Only in Flushing.

Ike Davis thinks fans take 'delight' in booing him. That's probably not the best thing to say when you are hitting .180, by the way.

Oh hey, Josh Satin is John Sickels's prospect of the day. HAIL!

Around the NL East

If you were hoping that the Phillies might sell off some prospects to make a run at the postseason this year...well, that's looking less likely with each passing day (loss).

Talking Chop recaps the Braves win last night.

The Nationals are in full free fall right now, and not even eight strong innings from Stephen Strasburgcan halt their descent.

Make it three straight games that the Marlins have scored a run! Wednesday it was only one, though, and that was not enough to beat the Rockies.

Around MLB

Here is all of Wednesday night's action in one handy dandy scoreboard. Of particular note: Once again the Dodgers staged a late inning rally to down the Blue Jays. That's five straight for LA, who sits atop the NL West for the moment.
