First baseman Brandon Allen, who spent most of last year with the Mets' Triple-A affiliate, has been re-signed to a minor league deal.
Multiple outlets have reported that the Mets have re-signed first baseman Brandon Allen to a minor league contract. The deal includes an invite to spring training.
The 28-year-old Allen spent the majority of last season with the Las Vegas 51s, the Mets' Triple-A affiliate. In addition, he also played five games at High-A with the Port St. Lucie Mets. At Triple-A he hit .266/.368/.434 with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs.
Allen is a career journeyman who spent time with the White Sox, Diamondbacks, Athletics, Rays, and Padres before joining the Mets last year. He has shown pretty good patience and decent pop in his bat as a minor leaguer, though he has hit only .203/.290/.375 in 344 major league at-bats. Allen bats left-handed and the Mets are pretty set with respect to left-handed first baseman after Lucas Duda turned in a fine 2014 campaign. With more versatile bench options available, Allen will have a tough time making the 25-man roster.
