Your Thursday morning dose of New York Mets and Major League Baseball news, notes, and links.
Meet the Mets
The Mets are in the entertainment business. That's what Sandy Alderson said yesterday, and that's one of the reasons he gave for the team's decision to move the fences in right center in about ten feet.
Alderson also gave his thoughts on the current Mets lineup, which now features newest addition Michael Cuddyer in the outfield.
More shortstop talk: if the Mets want one, it could mean giving up one of their young arms. Alderson has also suggested that there's a possibility Wilmer Flores could be the man at short next year.
With Matt Harvey coming off Tommy John surgery, what is the possibility he will face an innings limit next year in an effort to preserve his arm? Meanwhile, Harvey's agent, Scott Boras, cracked wise again about the Mets' spending, or lack thereof.
It hasn't always been the best of times for Mets prospect Brandon Nimmo in the Arizona Fall League.
Around the Majors
No surprise: the NL Cy Young Award went to the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw. In the AL, though, it was the Indians' Corey Kluber, not the Mariners' Felix Hernandez, winning the award.
The Tigers have resigned 35-year old DH Victor Martinez to a four-year, $68 million deal, which, despite his career season in 2014, is a risk.
Cardinals prospect Oscar Tavares apparently had a blood-alcohol content that was five times the limit when he was killed in a car accident in October.
Free agent reliever David Robertson is seeking a big payday.
Six teams, including the Red Sox, are in the mix for Jon Lester's services.
