Franklin Morales and Justin Morneau, uh, struggled early Tuesday morning in Japan.

The good news: The MLB All-Star team took care of business in the preview of a five-game slate in the Japan Series on Tuesday morning.

The bad news: The two Colorado Rockies representatives who traveled with the squad -- well, they didn't look too hot.

First baseman Justin Morneau went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and free-agent left-hander Franklin Morales allowed five runs on six hits in two-thirds of an inning in the MLB All-Stars' 8-7 victory over a team consisting of players from the Yomiuri Giants and Hanshin Tigers. Morales entered the game in the seventh inning with an 8-1 lead but promptly four singles, a double and a triple before being relieved by Jerry Blevins.

Morneau went down swinging twice and was called out on strikes once. His first whiff, which came on the third out of the second inning, allowed Hanshin-Yomiuri starter Atsushi Nohmi to strike out the side.

To add insult to injury, a couple of ex-Rockies were major contributors in the win. Chris Capuano, who made a handful of Triple-A starts but was overlooked for a major league spot despite the Rockies' heavy need, started for the MLB Stars and tossed four scoreless innings while striking out three batters. Dexter Fowler, who was dealt to the Astros after the 2013 season after spending five years in Denver, finished 2-for-4 with a home run.

The MLB All-Stars will take on Japan's best at the Kyocera Dome at 2 a.m. MT Wednesday morning.

There are a lot of interesting quotes from Rockies GM Jeff Bridich in Thomas Harding's piece addressing the rumors of the Mets inquiring about Troy Tulowitzki. The focus, of course, is on pitching, and Bridich also says the Rockies aren't planning a rebuild (we already knew that, but still).

Baseball Prospectus | Transaction Analysis: Cuddyer Quashes Qualifying Offer
Michael Cuddyer's fantasy value will obviously take a hit with his departure from Colorado, says R.J. Anderson and J.P. Breen. That doesn't mean he can't help the Mets. However, if you want a reminder of Cuddyer's worrisome recent injury history, look no further than within this article.

The Mets overpaid a bit for Cuddy, writes Jeff Sullivan.

Hochman: Rockies GM Jeff Bridich looks great as Michael Cuddyer leaves for Mets - The Denver Post
Maybe Jeff Bridich had a plan all along, says Benjamin Hochman. Of course, maybe Bridich and the Rockies just got lucky, but either way, Cuddyer's decision to leave is a good one for the guys in purple.
