The Mets likely could not afford the $118 million that the shortstop is owed, but the two sides are in discussions.

In the wake of the Michael Cuddyer signing, it appears that the Mets may not be done making moves. According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, the Mets have talked with the Rockies regarding shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. There were plenty of rumors of the Mets' interest in Tulowitzki leading up to the July 31 trade deadline this past season, but nothing concrete ever materialized. Last week, however, it was reported that the Rockies were once again open to trading the star shortstop.

Under his current contract, Tulowitzki is owed $118 million through 2020. This is a huge commitment for a 30-year-old who has only played more than 150 games twice in his career. However, he is also one of the best players in the league when healthy, and he hit .340/.432/.603 over 375 plate appearances in 2014. His bat, along with the newly-acquired Cuddyer, would provide immediate offense for the Mets, a team that finished 22nd in MLB in runs scored in 2014. It's unlikely that a deal will happen, but then again, a Cuddyer signing seemed unlikely just a few days ago.
