Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow announced the final addition to Houston's coaching staff on Tuesday - assistant hitting coach Alan Zinter.
Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow announced on Tuesday that Houston's final position on the coaching staff had been filled. Former Astro Alan Zinter is final piece to the coaching puzzle, he is joining the Astros coaching staff as assistant hitting coach.
Zinter was born in El Paso, Texas, and was a former first-round pick of the Mets in 1989 (24th-overall) out of the University of Arizona. Zinter reached the major leagues in 2002 with Astros and 2004 with the Diamondbacks. He spent 19 seasons in the minor leagues, including four seasons in the Astros system. Since retiring from baseball, Zinter has served as hitting coaching in Arizona's minor league system from 2008-2011. Most recently he was the hitting coordinator for the Indians from 2012-2014.
A.J. Hinch's staff is complete with Zinter as assistant hitting coach, Trey Hillman at bench coach, hitting coach Dave Hudgens, third base coach Gary Pettis, first base coach Rich Dauer, and returning staff members pitching coach Brent Strom and bullpen coach Craig Bjornson.
