The 25-year-old had an excellent season in the field in his second year in the big leagues.

Mets center fielder Juan Lagares has been named the winner of the 2014 National League Gold Glove award for his position. Lagares led all major league center fielders in defensive metrics Defensive Runs Saved and Ultimate Zone Rating per 150 games. In just his second big league season, Lagares emerged as one of the game's most exciting players to watch in the field.

Lagares becomes the tenth different player in Mets history to win a Gold Glove award and is just the third outfielder to receive one, joining Tommie Agee, who won one in 1970, and Carlos Beltran, who won in three consecutive seasons from 2006 through 2008. Lagares is the first Met to win a Gold Glove since Beltran and third baseman David Wright took home the hardware in 2008.

Lagares should play center field for the Mets for the foreseeable future, as he is not yet even eligible for arbitration and won't be a free agent for several years after that.
