The 28-year-old had a breakout season for the Mets in 2014.
The Mets' season has long been over, but the team's prospects playing in the Arizona Fall League and winter ball won't be the only players participating in games in the offseason. First baseman Lucas Duda, who had a breakout season with 30 home runs this year, will tour Japan with a team of Major League Baseball players as they play five games against Japan's national team.
Before the 2014 season began, Duda wasn't certain to remain with the Mets or get consistent playing time if he did. But the team dealt Ike Davis away in mid-April, and Duda took over as the team's everyday first baseman. In 596 plate appearances, he hit .253/.349/.491 with a 136 wRC+ that ranked 6th among 23 qualified first basemen. While Duda could use a right-handed hitter as a platoon partner, he is not going to have to worry about playing time as he heads into the 2015 season.
