Andrew Brown claimed off waivers by the Athletics

The Mets will need to find someone else to crush Stephen Strasburg on Opening Day next season.

Andrew Brown had 49 plate appearances with the Mets this season. In the first one, on March 31, he hit a three-run home run off of Stephen Strasburg. Despite that, as well as the season-long struggles of Mets left fielders, Brown didn't see a whole lot of playing time after Opening Day.

He hit well in Las Vegas for most of the season, but Brown didn't see any action in the big leagues after June 15. Today, he was claimed off of waivers by the Oakland Athletics.

Brown wasn't part of the Mets' long-term plans, anyway. Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Matt den Dekker are still on the team and could see serious playing time in 2015 if the team doesn't bring in an outfielder this winter. The Mets also drafted Michael Conforto last June to be a corner outfielder of the future.

Although Brown could provide some thump in a pinch, he was more of an organization-filler type who the Mets are looking to improve upon in 2015.
