The New York Mets have called up left-hander Garrett Olson from Triple-A, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com:

The Mets made room for left-hander Garrett Olson’s promotion by demoting Elvin Ramirez to Triple-A Buffalo. The team also transferred Dillon Gee to the 60-day DL to clear a 40-man roster spot.

To make room on their roster for Olson, the Mets optioned right-hander Elvin Ramirez to Triple-A.

Olson signed with the Mets this off-season as a free agent. The 28-year-old has spent the year with the club’s Triple-A affiliate, maintaining an ERA of 4.56 over his twenty-five appearances, including twenty-one starts.

Olson appeared in four games with the Pittsburgh Pirates last season. His most extensive stint in the majors was during the 2008 campaign when he started twenty-six games for the Baltimore Orioles. He owns a career ERA of 6.14 over his five years in the bigs.

Ramirez had appeared in eleven games with the Mets this season, allowing ten runs on fifteen hits and eleven walks over his twelve and one-third innings pitched.
