At the midway point of the 2013 season, the Mets' strength is undoubtedly pitching. The team's 3.88 ERA ranks 15th in the game, but its 3.74 FIP ranks 9th.

The overall numbers have improved thanks to significant improvement from the bullpen over the past several weeks. The starting rotation, though, is where the Mets have really shined. Mets starters have a 3.60 FIP for the year, the third-best mark in the game.

This week's meter covers the games played from July 8 through July 14.

David Aardsma, RHPWith 4 innings of effective work, Aardsma continues to look like a good scrap-heap find.
Scott Atchison, RHPThe bullpen's elder statesman came back from the disabled list over the weekend and struck out the only batter he faced to get the Mets out of a jam.
Greg Burke, RHPIt was an ugly week for Burke heading into the break, as he gave up 2 runs on 7 hits with 3 K and 2 BB in 2.2 innings.
Josh Edgin, LHPEdgin didn't allow a run in 4.1 innings, but he issued a staggering five walks and only recorded one strikeout.
Dillon Gee, RHPGee made a pair of starts and allowed 6 runs, 5 of which were earned, in 13.1 innings. He had just 5 K and issued 6 BB in the process. The results were good enough, but these weren't his best starts of the year, either.
Gonzalez Germen, RHP--In his first major league outing, Germen was inserted in a tied game in extra innings and gave up the game-winning run shortly thereafter.
Matt Harvey, RHPWhen 3 runs in 7 innings seems like a lot, a pitcher is pretty, pretty good. Harvey had 6 K and 1 BB in his last start before the break. And the All-Star Game doesn't count, but he was great in two innings there, too.
LaTroy Hawkins, RHPAfter a string of good outings, Hawkins struggled a bit in his last two.
Jeremy Hefner, RHPHefner made another good start, and he continues to prove he's a capable member of a major league rotation.
Shaun Marcum, RHPMarcum's last appearance of the season came the week before last, as he's expected to miss the rest of the season after surgery.
Jon Niese, LHPNiese has begun a long toss program, though there's still no real timetable for his return.
Bobby Parnell, RHPHe's still been excellent, and the Mets are still publicly stating they'll only trade him if they are "blown away" by an offer.
Scott Rice, LHPIn three appearances, Rice totaled an inning of work and did not allow a single opposing hitter to reach base.
Carlos Torres, RHPWith two relief outings and one start, Torres struck out eight, didn't walk anyone, and gave up only one run.
Zack Wheeler, RHPVisiting San Francisco, Wheeler made his best start yet in the big leagues. He allowed one run in seven innings and struck out five. He walked three, too, but was still quite efficient with his pitches.
