The Mets looked like they may nab a late come from behind win but they were unable to do so and lost game three of their four game series.

The Mets lost a tough one today by a score of 2-1 as they were unable to keep the hopes of a sweep alive against the Chicago Cubs. The Mets will look to rebound and try to emerge victorious in this series with another afternoon game tomorrow.

Rafael Montero pitched a fantastic ballgame but the Mets ran into a buzz saw today in the form of Jake Arrieta and managed just two hits against him and zero runs in his seven innings of dazzling work. Montero was almost his equal today, but allowed a run in the fourth off a Luis Valbuena RBI single.

The Mets sat on zero runs until Arrieta departed and they were able to get one back against the Cubs set-up man Pedro Strop in the eighth inning. Curtis Granderson singled home pinch-runner Eric Young from second base to tie the game up. The tie was short-lived as Jenrry Mejia gave up a solo-shot to the first batter he faced in the ninth, Starlin Castro, and that was that. Cubs closer Hector Rondon came in to retire the Mets in order and seal it for the away team.
