The Mets beat the Cubs again this evening in Queens.
For the second straight night, the Mets beat the Cubs. Jon Niese gave up three runs in six-plus innings, though his line could have looked a lot worse if Vic Black hadn’t prevented Chicago from scoring after taking over with the bases loaded and nobody out in the seventh.
At the plate, things went well for the Mets, who scored three runs in the third on a Juan Lagares automatic double and a two-run single by Wilmer Flores. They scored four more times in the sixth on a mix of hits and Cubs mistakes. The only downside of the frame was that David Wright was hit by a pitch in the left shoulder and left the game after the half-inning was over.
After Black’s excellent outing, the Mets turned to Jeurys Familia and Buddy Carlyle, each of whom tossed a scoreless inning, to complete the win.
