The Amazins will play with 24 men until the captain's return.

We got good news over the weekend when we learned that David Wright's shoulder injury, which has kept him out of New York's lineup since Friday, was only a bruise and not something more serious.

Unfortunately that doesn't mean that the captain of the Mets is ready to get back to competing right away. After being examined by doctors today, it has been determined that Wright will be on the shelf for the remainder of the team's road trip, which continues in Atlanta tonight. The earliest he will return to the lineup is on Friday, July 4 when the Mets take on the Rangers at home.

Until then, Wright is being prescribed rest. The 31-year-old third baseman has disappointed on offense so far in 2014, but his leadership and defense have proven invaluable. Eric Campbell should continue to start at third base in his stead, leaving three outfielders and a catcher left on the four-man bench.
