Triple-A - Las Vegas 51's (47-33)_______________________________________

SACRAMENTO 7, LAS VEGAS 5 (Box)

This game was televised on the CBS Sports Network as I'm sure many of you are aware. It offered us a chance to get a look at Noah Syndergaard in high definition, which was exciting. Unfortunately, Thor was disappointing on this night, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks in four innings. He cruised through the first two innings but ran into serious trouble in the third and fourth when the fastball command let him down. He sat mostly 95-97, mixing in the curve and the occasional changeup. The curve looks like an outstanding pitch. He's able to throw it for strikes and got a couple of strikeouts with it. I just wish he would throw it more because he seemed to be overly reliant on the fastball. The changeup did not look great to me. He rarely threw it and when he did it wasn't near the zone, although he did get a couple of swings and misses on it. Overall, it was pretty lackluster performance but you could definitely see the potential that's there.

Double-A - Binghamton Mets (45-33)_____________________________________

BINGHAMTON 1, ALTOONA 3 (Box)

  • 3B Brian Burgamy: 0-4
  • 1B Jayce Boyd: 0-4
  • LF Darrell Ceciliani: 1-3, RBI, K
  • 3B Dustin Lawley: 0-2, R, 2 BB, 2 K
  • PH Brandon Nimmo: 1-3, 2B; As I said on the podcast this week, Nimmo has a lot to gain with a strong second half performance. If he puts up respectable numbers and displays solid strike zone discipline then starting 2015 in Triple-A is likely, which means the majors are only 2,235 miles away (no way they're getting out of Vegas).
  • SS Dilson Herrera: 0-4, 3 K
  • RHP Hansel Robles: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K

Advanced-A - St. Lucie Mets (4-3 / 44-32)_____________________________________

ST. LUCIE 2, FORT MYERS 3 (Box) / Suspended

This game was suspended in the fifth, presumably due to rain, and will be completed tomorrow. It may have cut short the rehab start of Cory Mazzoni, who is making his way back from a triceps injury he sustained late on in spring training. I'm a Mazzoni fan and think he could end up being a decent bullpen piece at minimum down the road. His ultimate destination is likely Las Vegas given that he's already logged 146.2 innings in Double-A.

Low-A -Savannah Sand Gnats(4-4 / 48-26)__________________________________

SAVANNAH 0, CHARLESTON 9 (Box)

This is how I feel about the Savannah roster since all the promotions went down; there are only two players I find worthy to report on. They've gone from one of the more intriguing affiliates to perhaps the least. That said, I really like Champ Stuart and hope he starts striking a bit less.

Short-A -BrooklynCyclones(10-4)__________________________________

ABERDEEN 2, BROOKLYN 6 (Box)

In lieu of commentary from me, who's just looking at a box score, here's some actually information from someone who was at the game:

Rookie -Kingsport Mets(5-3)__________________________________

KINGSPORT 5, PRINCETON 4 (Box) / 17 innings

This is the kind of game that makes you think they should allow ties in rookie ball. These teams combined for 38 strikeouts, including 23 for Kingsport.

Rookie -GCL Mets(3-3)__________________________________

GCL CARDINALS 3, GCL METS 0 (Box)

Star of the Night

Not a lot to choose from so let's go with Casey Meisner.

Goat of the Night

Dilson Herrera, who received a harsh reminder that Double-A is supposed to be harder than High-A. Honorable mention to Noah Syndergaard, who looks like he still has some work left to do.
