Bartolo Colon was the hero today, as he threw eight strong innings and started a Mets rally with a double. It was Colon's first base hit since 2005.

Bartolo Colon gave up a solo home run on the third pitch he threw today. After that, he dominated the Cardinals on both sides of the ball as the Mets won the final game of the series 3-2.

On the mound, Colon tossed eight strong innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out one and walking none. At the plate, he hit a double to start a Mets rally in the sixth inning, and executed two sacrifices as well. He scored the Mets' first run of the game when Eric Young, Jr. doubled him home. The hit was Colon's first since 2005; the run was his first since 2002.

David Wright's RBI single in the sixth inning off Cardinals starter Lance Lynn gave the Mets a 2-1 lead, and Young's RBI double in the seventh extended the lead to 3-1.

Colon was pinch-hit for in the top of the ninth inning, having thrown just 86 pitches. It was a curious move, considering how well he was pitching. Just let him finish the game. Terry Collins went to Jenrry Mejia, who allowed two baserunners to start the ninth inning before inducing a double play off the bat of Matt Holliday. After an Allen Craig RBI single that tightened the score to 3-2, Collins called for southpaw Dana Eveland to face Matt Adams. Eveland retired Adams on a ground out to end the game.
