This week's player meter for position players is a sight for sore eyes. This series has featured far too many red arrows this year. With the slight uptick in scoring, the Mets rank 16th in baseball at 4.08 runs per game this season. Things could be worse.
This week's player meter covers the games the Mets played from July 1 through 7.
Player | Last Week | This Week | Comment |
---|---|---|---|
Andrew Brown, 1B/OF | In very limited playing time, Brown hit very, very well. | ||
John Buck, C | It's been a while, but Buck got on base and hit for some power this week. | ||
Marlon Byrd, OF | Byrd continues to impress, and there's at least a chance he could command something in return in a trade this month. | ||
Ike Davis, 1B | -- | He's back! In two games since rejoining the Mets, Ike hit .429 with a .636 OBP. He didn't have any extra-base hits, which is what to watch for over the rest of the season. | |
Lucas Duda, OF | The Dude ain't doing much yet. | ||
Juan Lagares, OF | With a .705 OPS, Lagares looked better at the plate than he has in most weeks. Combined with his defense, a slight improvement from that level of hitting could make him a valuable big league player. | ||
Daniel Murphy, 2B | It was a terrible week for Murphy, who racked up a .553 OPS despite hitting a home run. | ||
Kirk Nieuwenhuis, OF | Nieuwenhuis started just three of the Mets' game this week but played in all seven. He put up a 1.250 OPS at the plate, which was a great surprise. | ||
Omar Quintanilla, SS | Between some flashy defense and the way he's hit, Quintanilla has allowed the Mets to take their time in bringing Ruben Tejada back to the big leagues. | ||
Anthony Recker, C | Recker didn't hit often or get on base much, but he did belt a pair of home runs. | ||
Josh Satin, 1B | Satin raked in five games, hitting .391/.462/.739 with a home run and 5 doubles. #HAIL, of course. | ||
Ruben Tejada, SS | Recently activated from the disabled list, Tejada was immediately optioned to Triple-A Vegas. He'll return to the player meter when he returns to the big leagues. | ||
Justin Turner, IF | Turner is still working his way back. In the meantime, he's reportedly attending pie tastings all over southern Florida. | ||
Jordany Valdespin, 2B/OF | He hit .000 across the board in just five at-bats. It's a bit odd that he's still on the roster and not playing every day in Vegas. His ability to fake it at shortstop is probably what's keeping him in the big leagues. | ||
David Wright, 3B | Coming off an okay week, Wright was back to his usual excellent self. | ||
Eric Young Jr. | Young got on base at a .368 clip and hit three doubles. Since joining the Mets, Young has a .330 wOBA and 112 wRC+ with 5 SB in 89 PA. |
