Jacob deGrom had a rough start, and the Mets' lineup was the Mets' lineup in a series-opening loss.
The Mets lost to the Cardinals this evening, as Jacob deGrom struggled and the team’s offense wasn’t much better. In four-and-one-third innings, deGrom gave up six runs on a staggering twelve hits, and he struck out and walked two opponents in the process.
St. Louis scored first with a run in the first, and the Mets tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the third. But the Cardinals scored their second run in the bottom of that inning. They poured on four more runs in the fifth, and the Mets were only able to score a run in the eighth inning after that. The bright spot of the game was perhaps that the Mets’ bullpen kept the Cardinals from scoring throug the end of the game.
