In the midst of several roster moves Monday, the Miami Marlins promoted top pitching prospect Andrew Heaney. Heaney had success in Triple-A, and will join a Marlins rotation without Jose Fernandez.
After losing ace Jose Fernandez earlier in the year, the Miami Marlins announced Monday they have promoted top pitching prospect Andrew Heaney in a series of roster moves that will reshape the Marlins' rotation. Joe Frisaro of MLB.com was among the first to report the news.

He posted a 2.47 ERA and was solid in his time with both Double-A Jacksonville and Triple-A New Orleans. Heaney will likely face Zach Wheeler in the first game of a four game series with the New York Mets on Thursday night.
In the corresponding roster move, the Marlins designated Randy Wolf for assignment. The Marlins signed Wolf to take Fernandez's spot in the rotation, but he posted a 5.26 ERA and struggled making a comeback from Tommy John surgery.
Miami took the financial aspect into consideration when determining when to promote Heaney. According to MLB Trade Rumors, if he remains with the Marlins for the rest of the season, he would fall short of Super Two status.
Should he remain with the team through season’s end, he would accrue 106 days of Major League service time, meaning that he should fall well shy of Super Two status.
Heaney will be placed on a strict 160/170 innings limit, and having tossed over 72 of those in the minor leagues already, will skip an occasional start to keep him fresh. The addition of Heaney is key for the Marlins, who have had their share of rotation inconsistencies, leading to an overly used bullpen.
Other Notes
-In addition to adding Heaney, the Marlins transferred Jarrod Saltalamacchia to the 15-day disabled list and placed Christian Yelich on the 15-day DL. Yelich sat out the weekend series against the Pirates with back spasms.
-Kevin Slowey was designated for assignment as well, meaning Jacob Turner may take his role as a long reliever, allowing the Marlins to insert Anthony DeSclafani into the starting rotation.
-Jake Marisnick will likely see time in center field, with Marcell Ozuna shifting to left. Justin Bour gives the Marlins a left-handed bat off the bench, and Donovan Solano was sent to Triple-A New Orleans after seeing limited playing time with Miami.
