Despite a great start by Jon Niese, the Mets lost.
The Mets lost to the Brewers in thirteen innings this evening. While Jon Niese gave up just one run in seven-and-two-thirds innings of work, Kyle Lohse matched him and allowed only one run in eight. This being a Mets game, it went to extra innings.
Still tied at one in the eleventh, the Mets had the bases loaded with just one out but failed to win the game. Wilmer Flores grounded into a force out at home, and Anthony Recker struck out looking on a borderline pitch—and was ejected for arguing the call—to end the inning. A two-run home run by Jonathan Lucroy in the thirteenth proved to be the difference in the game, though the Mets gave up a couple more runs after that.
