The Mets beat Milwaukee 2-1 today to take the series from the Brewers. Although the Amazins banged out 11 hits, both the runs they scored were unearned. Don't tell Josh Satin, though. He doubled in one run and scored the other after hitting a double. Do tell Juan Francisco. His horrible defense at third base today helped the Mets immensely.
New York struggled against Brewers starter Tom Gorzelanny today. The lefty struck out eight Mets in six innings and didn't walk a soul. Still, the Mets were able to break through in the fourth. Satin dropped a fly ball into left-center field and hustled to second base for a two-out double. The replay showed that Rickie Weeks had actually tagged Mr. Eyebrows out on the play, but there's no replay in baseball, so the play stood as called.
The next batter Andrew Brown dribbled a grounder to third base. Francisco picked it up with his bare hand and threw wide of first base, which is why Satin was able to score all the way from second. The Mets scored again in the sixth when Marlon Byrd reached base on a very similar Francisco error. This time, Satin hit a double to drive the run in.
Jeremy Hefner was incredible in this game. He pounded the zone with his fastball and confounded Milwaukee hitters with his breaking stuff. He had eight strikeouts and just one walk in seven innings. The lone Brewers run came on a Jonathan Lucroy homer in the seventh.
