The Mets' terrible week didn't get any better last night.
The Mets scored three runs through the first three innings last night in San Francisco, and they might have scored more if not for a baserunning gaffe by Ruben Tejada for the second out of the third inning. But the team had the lead, and Bartolo Colon cruised through his first four innings.
The Giants loaded the bases but only got one run off Colon on a Buster Posey double play in the bottom of the fifth. The Mets answered with a run in the sixth, as Matt den Dekker came home on a wild pitch. But the bottom of the sixth got dicey, even though Colon retired the first two batters in the inning. After a single, David Wright made an error to prolong the inning, and Colon issued a walk to load the bases. Angel Pagan singled in two runs, of course, and the Mets went to Jeurys Familia.
Despite allowing an infield single to load the bases again, Familia escaped the jam by striking out Posey to end the inning. He threw two perfect innings from there. Jenrry Mejia came on for the ninth and struck out Pagan to begin the inning. The problem? Pagan reached first as Anthony Recker made an errant throw to first base. Naturally, Pagan then scored on a Hunter Pence double. Mejia retired Posey but Pence moved to third on the fly out, the Mets intentionally walked Pablo Sandoval, and Michael Morse hit a single well past the Mets' extremely shallow outfielders to end the game.
