A baseball version of a swift kick to the abdomen took place last night in Tucson. The 51s held a slim 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh before Jack Leathersich was taken deep by journeyman catcher Rene Rivera. Robert Carson held the lead into ninth until Justin Hampson and the 51s conspired for this:

BINGHAMTON 5, NEW HAMPSHIRE 6 (Box)
Binghamton managed to squander two two-run leads last night in Manchester, with Fisher Cats' second baseman Ryan Schimpf erasing the latter of the two deficits with a three-run home run in the sixth off reliever Ryan Fraser. New Hampshire's bullpen made the lean lead stand, as Scott Gracey and Alan Farina pitched four combined shutout innings with Gracey earning his first win and Farina earned his third save of the season.
After being retired in order by Deck Maguire in the top of the first, the Fisher Cats took the lead in the bottom of the frame as catcher A.J. Jimenez hit his first home run of the season against Mark Cohoon. The Mets finally scratched a run across in the second, after two singles and a Darrell Ceciliani walk, Blake Forsythe grounded into a run-scoring fielder's choice to tie the game. The third provided two more B-Mets runs, as Danny Muno reached on a Kevin Nolan error, and Josh Rodriguez and Cesar Puello each followed with singles to load the bases. While Maguire then managed to strikeout Allan Dykstra, he proceeded to walk Rhyne Hughes to force in a run and allow a sacrifice fly to Travis Taijeron before getting Ceciliani to line out to end the inning.
The Cats then tied the game in the bottom of the fifth after Cohoon hit the leadoff batter and a single, Kevin Ahrens singled home Schimpf, and Adam Loewen had a run scoring fielder's choice to tie the game at three. The top of the sixth would see Bingo knock out Maguire courtest of back-to-back home runs from Ceciliani and Forsythe to lead off the inning. However, Ryan Fraser would alllow a three-run home run to Schimpf, his 17th round-tripper this season, which would prove to be the decisive runs. Binghamton never threatened against New Hampshire's bullpen, and were handed just their second loss in their last eleven games.

Miami's 2012 first-round pick Andrew Heaney threw six shutout innings last night, allowing five hits and striking out seven, as the Hammerheads defeated the S-Mets 4-1. Matthew Bowman was in trouble two batters into the game as fellow Miami uber-prospect Christian Yelich touched him for a solo home run. Yelich was part of Jupiter's second run, as his walk was followed by an Austin Barnes double in the top of the third. Bowman had a chance to salvage his outing as he had runners on second and third with two outs in the sixth, but Ross Wilson's line drive doubled the deficit from two to four and subsequently ended the Princeton product's night. St. Lucie was able to get a run in the seventh against reliever Kevin Cravey as Neifi Zapata and Charley Thurber led the inning off with doubles, Thurber's being of the run-scoring variety. However, Thurber would be stranded by Cravey, who pitched a scoreless eighth before ceding the ninth to closer Nick Wittgren, who earned his sixteenth save.

The second half swoon persists for the South Atlantic League farmhands as Tyler Vanderheiden pitched a disastrous third of an inning, turning a 4-3 sixth inning lead into a 7-4 deficit, from which the Sand Gnats could not recover as the lost to the Drive last night 8-4 at Fluor Field. Jose Vinicio singlehandedly created a run in bottom of the first against Matthew Koch as he singled to center, stole second, stole third, and scored on a catching error from Dimas Ponce while swiping the latter. However, Eudy Pina tied the game with a solo home run in the second, and the Gnats took the lead soon after as Phil Evans followed Pina's blast by reaching on an error and scoring on an Albert Cordero single. Koch then gave the lead back in the third as Mookie Betts' double was followed by Drew Terocy single and a David Chester single to hand the keys back to the Drive. However, the Gnats had one final offensive swarm against reliever Austin Maddox in the sixth as Dimas Ponce atoned for his error with an RBI single and Albert Cordero scored on a Maddox wild pitch to take the lead.
Then Tyler Vanderheiden happened:
The Drive would tack on an insurance run against Carnevale in the eighth, and Jeff Wendelken pitched two scoreless innings to earn his seventh save for the Drive.

The Cyclones had an admirable effort to even force extras last night against the IronBirds, but their four-run eighth inning comeback was all in vain as Aberdeen won the game on a walk-off throwing error by Brooklyn first baseman Alex Sanchez. After taking the lead in the top of the second, Brooklyn conceded a run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings before bucking the trend and allowing two in the sixth to place themselves at a four-run disadvantage. However, magic went down in seventh against flamethrowing reliever Jose Figuereo:
From the bottom of the eighth until the top of the eleventh, the pitching tightened as each half-inning went 1-2-3. The Cyclones had a glorious chance to take the lead in the top of the eleventh as LJ Mazzilli hit a one-out single and stole second. After a James Roche strikeout, Jared King laced a single to left field, and IronBird leftfielder Tanner Rust proceeded to nail Mazzilli at the plate attempting to score to end the inning. Then Aberdeen won it mighty quick in the bottom of the frame: Jared Breen led off with a double against the newly inserted Shawn Teufel, and Kris Richards attempted to bunt him over to third but Sanchez proceeded to throw the ball away attempting to cut off Breen at third, and Aberdeen walked off 5-4 winners.

After last night's offensive display of torrential proportions, the K-Mets put forth another solid hitting day as they secured their second straight win at Howard Johnson Stadium last night, 5-3. Kingsport started the scoring in the third as Champ Stuart scored on a Victor Crusado single, the eighth run scored this season for Stuart. However, the Cardinals answered with runs in the third in fourth to take a 2-1 lead, until Dr. Jeyckol De Leon got all heroic: 
2012 seventh round pick Corey Oswalt got the start for the Mets, throwing four hectic innings before Yoan Gonzalez threw four brilliant ones of his own in relief, earning the win in the process. Robert Coles then pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the season.
